Courtney Bearns, LSW

Courtney Bearns, LSW, is a Licensed Social Worker who received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Williams College and a Master of Social Work degree from Rutgers University. Courtney has worked in the mental health field in a number of settings, including in-home behavioral services, intensive outpatient groups, and providing individual outpatient psychotherapy.

Courtney takes a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach, using modalities including CBT, DBT, and ERP. As a child at heart, if not in body, she likes to include fun and light-hearted approaches to therapy whenever possible. Knowing that many people are nervous about therapy, her goal is to help you feel safe, valued, and understood.  With experience helping clients from ages 6-65+, Courtney has particular training in the use of exposure and response prevention (ERP) for OCD, though appreciates its use for other anxiety-related challenges as well. She loves helping people rediscover their strengths and build confidence in their ability to do hard things.

Courtney is LGBTQ+ inclusive and affirming of different identities, cultures, religions, and neurotypes. She also has a Ph.D. in social psychology and social policy, with a research emphasis on stereotyping and prejudice and how social structures can influence psychological processes. When not working, Courtney enjoys sci-fi/fantasy geekery, horseback riding, being gleefully mediocre at arts and crafts, taking naps with her cats, and spending time outdoors with her family.
