Evolutionary Integrative Psychotherapy

Our Philosophy on Training and Supervision

Our goal in supervision and training is not to achieve perfect adherence to an abstract model of doing therapy, but rather to help each person develop their own approach to doing psychotherapy by blending their own interpersonal strengths and capacities with a large toolkit of ideas and interventions. We also want supervision and training to be fun. We try to do this by creating an environment that is supportive, open,  respectful, and humorous, and by not taking ourselves too seriously even while we are serious about our work.

A psychotherapy career is a long, sometimes arduous and often wondrous journey, and our job is to provide you with all the maps we have made in our own journeys so that you can see more of the territories you might wish to explore.

Summary FAQ's

What is the philosophy behind EIP training and supervision?

The philosophy emphasizes a developmentally informed, experiential, and integrative approach that supports clinicians in both professional growth and therapeutic effectiveness.

How does EIP supervision support clinicians in training?

EIP supervision helps clinicians integrate theory with practice by providing guidance, experiential learning, and reflective opportunities that strengthen both competence and confidence.

Why is experiential learning important in EIP training?

Answer: Experiential learning allows clinicians to embody therapeutic skills, not just understand them intellectually. This deepens their capacity for empathy, flexibility, and clinical effectiveness.
