Amia Sylvester, LSW, is a licensed social worker who obtained her Master of Social Work degree from Rutgers University and her Bachelor of Science from Utica College of Syracuse University. She has worked in the social work field for over ten years, primarily working with children, youth, and families. Her extensive experience also includes working with survivors of child abuse, survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and numerous challenges impacting veterans.
Amia’s social work experience provided her with an opportunity to travel to Romania for a summer, where she worked with some of their most vulnerable populations. This further strengthened her abilities to deliver culturally competent therapeutic services with individuals and families from a variety of backgrounds. In session, Amia strives to promote an environment free from judgment that allows patients to be their most vulnerable selves. Amia’s utilization of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques in her treatment approach also supports her patients’ development of positive coping strategies to confront and overcome life-changing experiences such as depression and anxiety.
Amia’s experience includes individual, family and group therapy and one of her most important goals is to help survivors of trauma begin the healing process.
